[This page is to be reserved for any report which the Governor may make when sending the form to the Colonial Office.]
There is no post in the Treasury or Post Of-
fice of this Colony to which Mr.Wood could be appointed
and which would be promotion for him.
As regards the application for an increase
of salary, Mr. Wood was appointed in 1891 at a salary of $2,400 a year which was raised on promotion to $2,760 in 1894 rising by biennial increments to a maximum of $3,000 which was attained this. year. However much Mr. Wood's ser- vices may merit better remuneration, I am unable to recom- mend that he should receive an increase of salary so long as officers like Mr. Crook and Mr. Drury of the Engineering Staff who have service equal to that of Mr. Wood and have professional qualifications, receive no more than $3,000 a
year,
The present Director of Public Works speaks
as highly of Mr. Wood as Mr. Cooper did, and I personally have had experience of his aptitude for business and tact in managing the affairs and festivities of the Hong-Kong St. Andrew's Society.
